Flounder Competition
Poole, 17th January 2010
The after AGM drinks proved to be another relaxed social event, a good time to unwind without the added worry of rig tying. The socialising continued during a fine meal washed down with just a little alcohol.
Early reports of good flounder catches were soon replaced with “the melt water has spooked the fish” & “the netters are catching them for pot bait” at least the weather reports turned out right! The current champion (Mr Bryant) managed to release a flounder early on, Ray Barron discovered a new way of flounder fishing using a borrowed rig, spiral lead & a float, watching the float drift further & further away seemed to pass the time away, I’m sure he will be looking for one with a sail for next year’s event.
A couple of side wagers ensured that the tension was held through to the last cast of the day, Matt Osborne narrowly missed out on becoming Champion by dropping a good sized flounder at the net on his last cast. Young Hayden Spencer got lucky (even though he didn’t manage to bring a flounder to the net) by winning the guess the heaviest weight, I’m sure the new reel will help him catch one next year.
Although only one angler managed two flounder the total weight was not enough to oust Paul Rivers from the King of the Flounders throne, Paul’s one fish secured him his fourth title in this event. The top shore angler, Carol Hunt came in a very worthy third place with Martin Bobbett in second. Full results below.
