The Section participates in the Game Fishing events run by the Headquarters Game Festival Officer. The format for these events are team based, but are open to all individuals, where an individual is not in an English based team they will be placed into a “Barbarian” team to compete.
The Section enters two official Section Teams to compete solely for medals, with all other teams and the two official Section teams also competing in the main event for the highly prized EFSA Championship Pins.
The events now are run every other year on even years, i.e. 2000, 2002, 2004.
Venues that have been utilised so far are:
Kenya, Watamu / Malindi
South Africa, Langebaan
Mexico, Puerto Vallarta
South Africa, Hout Bay
South Africa, Simon’s Town
Thailand, Phuket
U.S.A., Islamorada
It is planned that future Game fishing events will also be run by individual Sections in the years between Headquarters events. The first of these was hosted by Section Portugal, based in the Algarve region in 2007.
All events use local boats with teams participating in a draw to be allocated their boats for the event. Generally, loan tackle can be provided by these boats to allow a low cost entry into this exciting sport.
The English Section will usually try to obtain discounted air tickets where appropriate and hotel accommodation, all you have to do is turn up and enjoy yourself.
