EFSA Boat Championship 2018
The 2018 EFSA Boat Championship was fished out of Penzance on the 12th and 13th May. A number of the anglers arrived early as they were expecting to fish a practice day on the Friday. However, the weather was too bad and practice was cancelled. 51 anglers met at the HQ, The Lugger Inn, to catch up with friends, swop fishy stories and register for the event.
Day 1
The weather had improved and the six boats taking part in the competition were able to leave the harbour. Fishing was mixed with some boats drifting all day whilst others anchored for an hour or two. Fish caught included pollack, haddock, dogfish, gurnard but flatfish were notable by their absence. Day one boat winners were Gary Geoghegan, Gary Dennis, Steve Souter, Ray Barron, Kevin Preston and Ken Smith.
Day 2
The second day was similar to day one. With four of the day one winners on the same boat it would prove an interesting day. Ray Barron came out top on this boat of death and was the only angler to have two boat wins and therefor win the competition. Well done Ray. Other boat winners were Neil Bryant, Martin Bobbett, Richard Russell, Colin Searles, Kevin Sampson.
