This year’s English Boat Championship was held in Poole over Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th July. Friday evening registration for the event was held at the King Charles Pub, where besides confirming entry and entering optional teams, it was a good chance to meet up again and catch up with fellow anglers.
Day 1 and the weather was not great with a stiff westerly wind, but the boats managed to get out of the harbour. Fishing was primarily at anchor although some boats manged some drifting in the afternoon as the wind and tide in being opposite directions it slowed the drift speed down. The four boat winners that day were Brian Moss, Gary Galbraith, Vernon Allen and top angler on the day Colin Searles on 88 points.
Day 2. The wind was a little lighter today, though in the morning for a time there was heavy rain. There were several decent size breams caught by one boat, the best being 38cm which won the 1st place for longest bream. The days winners were Gary Gailbraith, Duncan Beck, Neil Bryant with Ash Currier top on 66 points.
The presentation was held at 18 00 in the King Charles pub. Our Chairman Neil Bryant opened the presentation by thanking the pub for allowing us the use of the room. Thanks went to Brett Lomas of Lagoon Bait & Tackle for helping with the prizes for the raffle, thanks also went to the skippers for their efforts in putting us on the fish in challenging conditions, and to the anglers for attending, without them the event would not take place. A mention for Andy Selby who could not be with us but did the organisation for the event prior to Championship and to Kim Bowden and Andy Smith for looking after the arrangements the last two days and producing the results each day.
After the Raffle, the presentation took place. In addition to the full set of results below the other awards were: – longest bream from 3rd to 1st and receiving tackle vouchers were Colin Searles 34cm, Andy Smith 36cm and the longest, Gary Galbraith with a bream of 38cm. The day winners were Colin Searles on Saturday with a score of 88 and day two was Ash Currier with a score of 66, also winning tackle vouchers.
Neil presented the top three anglers in the event with their pins. These were; top angler and gold pin winner Gary Galbraith, the only angler to score 100% both days; 2nd place and silver pin went to Brian Moss with 199.52%; 3rd place and getting the bronze pin, Ray Barron on 182.88%.
Neil closed by saying hoped to see many of those present at the European Boat and Line Championship at Weymouth in September or at the English Species event at Minehead in Late November.
