English Shore Championships. Dover Breakwater 7th and 8th July 2005
The fishing venue will be the Famous Dover Breakwater which can be reached from the Dump Head pier with parking in the car park behind the life boat station. We will be crossing over to the breakwater on boats supplied by the Dover port authorities, the fee of £4.00 per day is payable to the boatman on the day. The fee to fish the pier which is £5.00 is included in the entry fee.
Venue
The venue is very easy to fish with clean bottom, apart from the odd snag mostly old tackle. The water over high tide is very deep & at times the tide rips through turning from east to west in a matter of minutes, so long casting is not necessary. Pendulum casting is prohibited as is the use of braided line. Nose grip leads are required. Please be considerate to your fellow angler!!!
The main species to be caught will be : – Pout , Dogfish, Plaice, Dab, Pollack, Sole, Silver eel, Garfish, Bass,Smooth-hound. The match will be fished Catch and Return to EFSA size limits. The length of each species of fish will be collated to weight by a chart.
Bait
Only Lug , King Rag, Fish and Squid are permitted no Live-baiting.There are several tackle shops along the main road where bait can be ordered with a large selection of all tackle required.
Results and Report |
The match was fished under catch and return rules to size limits using a chart that related to length of fish to weight ratio. All fish caught above 45cm, were weighed and returned. |
Each angler was provided with an A4 size laminated limit chart which had all size to weight calculations, making it easy to obtain correct pionts score as soon as the catch had been witnessed by the next competing angler. This new way of calculating catch & return proved very successful with the only fish retained thoughtout the event being a large Plaice, fit for the table. |
Day 1 |
The weather took a turn for the worse with NW5-6 gusting 7 but we managed to get onto the breakwater and everyone caught fish, including some very nice Plaice, Whiting, Dabs Pout, Smoothounds, Eels, Flounder, Sole and of course Dogfish. Janet Sargeant caught Wrasse in the 1lb mark on both days, fishing straight down the wall. |
