Results – English Winter Challenge Weymouth 2026

Saturday 10th January 19 anglers were greeted with sun, blue skies  and a gentle breeze which was a pleasant surprise after the stormy weather over the previous 48 hours. At 7:30 they met on Cousens Quay, Weymouth to load the boats and set off hoping to catch Conger, Rays, Spurdog or any other fish over 5lbs. Bait and boat draw information had been collected from Weymouth Angling Centre the previous day.

The fishing was steady throughout the day with all anglers catching fish on mackerel, squid and, if you were lucky enough to catch one, whiting or pout baits.

At the close of play it was John Wright and Billy Cann fishing on Lone Shark who amassed the most points, both having 80 points. John took the top spot on count back of number of Rays caught.  Andy Selby had 65 points to take third place, again fishing on Lone Shark.  Top rods on Meerkat were Andy Smith and Kim Bowden both having 60 points with Andy having the most Rays.

The longest Ray across the wing prize went to Billy Cann with a fine Blond Ray of 68cm, 18lb 11oz. Two Man openprize went to Billy Vannand Brian Moss 120 point. Four Man Open prize went to the team of Gavin Hunt, Brian Moss, Billy Cann, Matt Osborne. Four Man Drawn Team prize was won by Ray Evans, Billy Cann, Matt Osborne, Andy Selby.
