European Species Championship 2005
This year the famous port of Dover hoists the European Species Championship, and what a great venue to fish from. With it being the nearest port to Europe we are expecting a large influx of traveling anglers, so if you fancy fishing it read on & get booked in!
With its numerous banks, reefs and wrecks Dover can offer a wide range of fishing marks all capable of producing fine catches throughout the year. December is top month for fishing the inshore banks and reefs for the Cod and Channel Whiting.
As this is an European event bait will be supplied and this is the only bait you can use throughout the festival, so booking bait is something you don’t have to worry about. The venue H.Q. will be the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkstone which has given fantastic rates over the event to EFSA members and their guests, so again another problem of where you would stay sorted, all you need to do is book, turn up and enjoy.
Rules for this event are Cod only measured and returned, with the longest length taking the maximum for the day then being added to day two to give an overall points total.
We have a total of ten boats booked so far and reservations are being taken at the hotel so really does sound like this is an event worth doing.
Results and Report
European Species Championship (Cod)
Dover 2005
The European Species Championship was to all who attended a great success, well that’s what the feedback was. Once again the Grand Burstin Hotel was the HQ and without a doubt this was extremely good value for money.
The event took place from the port of Dover and the skippers were a credit to their profession. Not only was the fishing pretty good, the food and drinks served were a delight, well, to those that did them anyway.
Because this was a European event, it was decided that anglers could fish either a pennell rig or a two-hook rig. This worked well and there were no reports of any problems. Unfortunately, Charlotte was taken quite ill, or should I say very ill, on the Sunday morning and Andy had to retire from fishing to take her home. We were all able to carry the event forward due to their planning. Therefore, with the help of a few other members and their supporting other halves, the event continued and I for one am grateful for their help.
This was well supported with anglers from Portugal , France , Belgium , to name but a few, taking part and to my knowledge, all had a good weekend. Congratulations to all who supported the event, a great success and a nice way to finish off a long year.
