Results – Shore Species Festival 2007

Shore Species Festival
Weymouth 2007

It was the first time this new Championship was fished in Weymouth. The Weymouth Angling Club allowed us to use their club house as our HQ. and made us very welcome with a finger buffet on the registration night and the same on presentation of the prizes. The buffet was superb and fed most of the club members as well!!

The prizes were supplied by the Weymouth Angling Centre, who gave us a very good discount making it possible to present every angler with a prize. Once again many thanks to Andy Selby for providing the prizes and attending the prize giving to make the presentations.

The weather was glorious wall to wall sunshine blue skies flat seas water as clear as Gin so you can imagine that the fishing was rather patchy to say the least!!!

The practice days were very good with lots of Trigger Fish “Budge” had four in one day fishing the wreck of the Adelaide; we went to Portland Bill with our mentor Reg Clough and caught some very good Wrasse to three and a half pounds, lost more than we caught. It was quite an experience for those of us whom had never fished up their before, I nearly lost my rod when I decided to have a drink of water. Colin’s rod exploded when a Wrasse took him into the rocks. We then moved around to the Weymouth side of the “Bill” and Reg catching a Two pound thirteen an half once Black Bream whic broke his club record.

The weather then got even better so the competition was very scratchy to say the least!!! We still managed some very good fish; Red Gurnard, Trigger fish, Codling, Red mullet and Dragonet.

If anyone knows the specimen weight for the last two please e-mail me.

1st. Colin Sargeant Red Gurnard 117%

2nd. Paul Parsons Trigger Fish 72%

3rd. Peter Campbell Trigger fish 63%

4th. Reg Clough Most Species

5th. Budge Booker Dragonet 31%

6th. Martin Sherwin Codling 14%

7th. Dave Lovelock Red Mullet 11%

The bonus of the week was the Socialising and dinning with friends and fellow anglers which topped off a first class event.

Brian Allum.
