English Shore Championships
Eastbourne
This year we tried to fish two venues – Dungeness and Pevensey Bay . Many anglers had expressed their wish to fish Dungeness but the weather, with gale force winds and gusts to 50mph made it impossible. We had to tuck ourselves up White Horses which was still fishing on the limit.
Day One: Even with the atrocious weather conditions, there were fish to be caught with many small Bass, Dabs, Whiting, Ling, Eels and a Jerry Knight special Pollack of 36cm. We used the catch and return system of weight to length ratio chart so all the Bass and other species went back alive. Day one winner was Saul Page.
Day Two: Much of the same weather and sea conditions but for the last hour the wind backed around to the north west which gave the anglers a little respite. I suppose the only thing that was in our favour that it did not rain. The fishing was more or less the same as day one, but Alan Yates who couldn’t fish on day on as he had a previous engagement on Tight Lines (and gave EFSA England a very nice plug) caught a nice Bass of 3:25 lbs. Day Two winner was Ian Hopper.
I would like to thank Colin Sargeant, Reg Clough and Dave Lovelock for the help in Pegging and the weighing in of the larger fish and eels.
